I just watched the new Karate Kid movie today. Being the ultimate authority on all things Asian-related, I am going to give you my unsolicited opinion on the movie, and you will thank me for it. THANK ME FOR IT.
CAUTION: SPOILERS!!!
1) "The Karate Kid" is also known as "The Kung Fu Dream" in China, and "Best Kid" in both Koreas.
2) Jaden Smith is a really cute little kid. Cuter than Ralph Macchio. More believable fighting, too. (He uses the Hurricane-rana move TWICE, and then flash-kicks a guy like Guile from Street Fighter to win the final fight. Okay, so not more believable, but definitely more awesome.)
3) JACKIE CHAN
4) Awesome alternate ending where Jackie Chan beats up the other teacher. WAAAY better than the theatrical ending. Mostly because Jackie is fighting an adult instead of little kids, and he moves like LIGHTNING. Even though he's old.
5) The little Chinese boy who is the antagonist is kinda creepy in his violently intense anger in the final tournament fights.
6) Yes. All Asian children are expected to become piano and/or violin prodigies.

8) Generally, I liked it. Brian thought the original with Ralph Macchio was better, but I like the new one better (even though the new movie rips off some lines word-for-word from the original).
